Q: Is there really a person on the other end?
A: Yes. AIDSinfo health information specialists respond to questions via AIDSinfo Live Help. By typing your questions, comments, and responses, you will have an electronic conversation with a health information specialist.

Q: Who are the people on the other end?
A: The people staffing AIDSinfo Live Help are trained health information specialists who are knowledgeable about HIV/AIDS, clinical trials for HIV treatment and prevention, hotlines, publications, web sites, and other information about HIV/AIDS-related resources.

Q: Do the people on the other end know who I am?
A: No. Before you start an AIDSinfo Live Help session, you must choose a nickname. The Live Help health information specialists will only know your nickname, the web page you were on when you clicked the Live Help button, and whatever you choose to write them. They have no way of getting any other information about you. It is important to remember that the Internet may not be secure, so you should not provide any information that identifies you.

Q: What kind of information is available through AIDSinfo Live Help?
A: AIDSinfo Live Help health information specialists are prepared to answer your questions about HIV/AIDS and to help you navigate the AIDSinfo web site. You can also get personalized information about HIV/AIDS clinical trials.

Q: Can someone else on the Internet listen in?
A: No. The session is strictly one-on-one only. AIDSinfo Live Help is not a "chat room". In addition, your AIDSinfo Live Help session is encrypted. Our encryption system is similar to the security techniques used to protect credit card numbers used for Internet purchases.

Q: Do I need special software to use AIDSinfo Live Help?
A: No. AIDSinfo Live Help works within the Internet browser on your computer.

Q: Can I get a computer virus using AIDSinfo Live Help?
A: No. AIDSinfo Live Help can only send text to your computer, so it is impossible to send a virus.

Q: Can I get the same information by telephone?
A: Yes. The AIDSinfo Information Service is available Monday through Friday between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Call 1-800-448-0440 or 1-301-519-0459 (International) or 1-888-480-3739 (TTY/TDD). You can also send an email to ContactUs@aidsinfo.nih.gov.
